"While the U.S. is not"
As we saw in the “What does the audience like” section, the audience gets triggered when there are innovations that other countries don’t have because of their culture. So by including the phrase “While the U.S. is not” at the beginning of your script, you really trigger this audience to keep watching.
00:05
"Japan has Jelly water"
They start their script right away with a product that has a “wow factor.” These are products or things that make you think, “What is that?” so the viewer immediately gets what they clicked for and wants to keep watching.
00:07
Sound effects
They use a lot of sound effects that match the clip you’re seeing. For example, when someone drinks the jelly water, you hear a drinking sound in the background. This makes the clips feel more realistic, and they also use ASMR effects that create a satisfying feeling, which keeps viewers watching for longer.
00:00
Subtitles
By using subtitles, you trigger the viewer to look at their screen because we humans are naturally inclined to read when we see text.
00:00
High pace editing
They use a very fast editing pace, which fits well with the target audience that watches this type of content. Studies have shown that quickly switching between shots can have an almost addictive effect in kids’ shows, and this technique can help keep viewers watching your video for longer.
00:18
Jumping from product to product
This is a must. Before you know it, you’re already looking at the next product. They switch from product to product at a very fast pace without long introductions, which keeps the viewer constantly watching.
Don'ts
I couldn't find anything
For this niche, this channel is doing an excellent job if you ask me, and that’s clearly reflected in the views.

Very chaotic but effective thumbnail
If you ask me, this is a very chaotic thumbnail format that goes against all the rules I personally stand by, like the three focus points, for example. But apparently, it works, and I always say you shouldn’t try to reinvent the wheel. If you see that something works, you should just start with that and later see if you can adjust it.
What do I think works well?
This thumbnail has 1.6M views, and another thumbnail on this channel has 2.4M views. What stands out is that both thumbnails feature the pancakes and the McDonald’s photo. For Americans, McDonald’s and pancakes are familiar cultural elements, so seeing them in Japan or Korea triggers their curiosity and makes them want to watch.

What would I change?
I would recommend not using more then 3 pictures to create less chaos and test thumbnails out including the red and yellow arrows and without.

What's important for this niche?
What’s important in this niche is that you look for innovative products from Japan and Korea. As we saw in the thumbnail analysis, products that Americans recognize from their own culture work as strong triggers for them. That’s why it’s important to start your video with these kinds of products.
These can be brands like McDonald’s or Burger King, or foods like pancakes and cereal. It also seems that drinks and food perform especially well, because they can create a satisfying effect for viewers.
How to find topics?
YouTube:
Channel 1: Japan Chronicles
Channel 2: Livin in Japan
Channel 3: Japan Bits
Go to one of the competitor channels and look at which clips have performed well. Then, check the comments to see if there are any products people talk about a lot. In that way, you have proof that those clips were effective triggers.
After that, you can do two things:
- You can take the clips from your competitor’s video.
- You can search on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, or Reddit to find other videos of the same products, so your video has a slightly different look and feel.
Instagram/TikTok/X/Reddit:
Go to one of these social media platforms and search for terms like:
- Japan innovations
- Japan food
- Japan 2025
- Korea innovations
- Korea food
- Korea 2025
Etc.
From there, look for videos and posts that are getting a lot of attention so you have social proof of which products have performed well on those platforms. Also, check the comments to see what triggered people about that product, so you can use that to your advantage in your own video.
ChatGPT:
ChatGPT can help you come up with search terms for Instagram/TikTok/X/Reddit. It can also help you find out which innovative food products Japan/Korea has created, so you can use that as a starting point for further research.
Topic:
Normally, I’d show you a topic I’ve chosen at this point, but for this niche, that’s a bit difficult since it’s a mix of all the points I mentioned here. So I’d recommend following those steps, because that’s exactly what I would have done for this niche as well.

How to create your thumbnail?
I went on TikTok and searched for the term “Japan in 2050.” I specifically looked for videos that reflect recognizable elements of American culture, focusing on food, because we learned from the thumbnail analysis that these types of thumbnails performed the best.
To start, I divided the thumbnail dimensions into three equal parts, since we want to use three screenshots in the thumbnail that need to be the same width.

First screenshot
I came across a video that showed pancakes from Japan, and since we saw in the analysis that two thumbnails featuring pancakes performed well, I decided to use that as the first image. Coincidentally, there was already a yellow arrow in that video, just like the competition uses, so I decided to keep it.

Second screenshot
For the second screenshot, I chose something recognizable from an American brand, because in both competitor thumbnails we saw that something related to McDonald’s worked well. On TikTok, I came across a video where Japanese people put pudding in a McDonald’s cup, which looks funny and strange from an American perspective. And here as well, the yellow arrow was already included in the video so didn't have to add that.

Third screenshot
And for the last screenshot, I chose something that looks bizarre and is also food-related, because we saw in the competitor’s thumbnail that food often performs well. This screenshot also already had a yellow arrow included, and this is the final result:

AUDIENCE ANALYSIS
What does the audience like?
Visiting Japan/Korea
Maybe a bit obvious but I do have to mention it. People are watching videos from these kind of channels because they’re thinking about visiting or moving to Japan or Korea.
Innovation
The viewers think the innovations in Japan and Korea are ahead of other countries.
Compare with their own or other countries
You can also see that many viewers compare Japan and Korea to their own countries and highlight the cultural differences in a negative way.
AUDIENCE ANALYSIS
What does the audience not like?
Nothing..
I couldn’t really find anything that this audience dislikes, apart from the obvious things like clickbait and stuff.
