Why this
niche?
I found multiple channels that started uploading shortly and are already pulling in very high average views, which is a strong indicator that there’s a lot of potential in this niche. On top of that, a large part of the content is created with AI, making it possible to produce high-quality videos without having to spend a huge budget.

Do's
00:00
Using AI host
They’ve created an AI character that tells the story while walking through streets from that era. This makes the story truly come to life.
00:15
Great AI footage
If there’s one thing that really stands out on this channel, it’s the visuals they’ve generated with AI. There’s a lot of detail and you can clearly see they were created by someone who knows exactly what they’re doing.
00:18
Good voice-over
Even though it’s an AI voice-over, the average viewer probably won’t notice and that’s crucial for telling a good story. On top of that, they’ve chosen a British accent, which fits this subject perfectly.
00:20
AI honesty
While in most other niches you usually want to hide the fact that you’re using AI, in this niche it’s actually a strength as we’ve seen in the comments. So be transparent about it and use it as part of your story.
00:43
Speaking in the first person
By occasionally telling the story in the first person, you make it feel more personal and authentic. These small details can make a big difference in how connected an audience feels to your channel.
00:40
Then vs now
What’s really important to bring your story to life is constantly creating parallels between buildings and streets we know from the 20th century and how they already existed back then. This is one of the main reasons people watch these videos, so make sure your video is build around this.
06:46
Sound effects
By using sound effects, your video really comes to life especially in this scene. So make as much use of them as you can.
Don'ts
00:00
Long winding intro
Don’t get me wrong, the intro is fine, but I have another example where it’s just a step better. Specifically in how they compare the past to the present because as we’ve learned from the comments, this is one of the main reasons people watch these videos, so starting your video this way is in my opinion exactly how it should be done. This thumbnail got 1.4M views
The good news is that this thumbnail generated this many views while there is so much to improve.
But lets starts what's good about it:
Created a real life image of the London Bridge in 1600s ✅
Maybe it doesn’t look that special at first, but back in the 1600s there were no cameras. They only had paintings and by generating a realistic image based on one of those paintings, you create something truly fascinating for people who love history.
But besides that, there is nothing more interresting I could tell about this thumbnail..
Doesn’t trigger enough emotion. ❌
If there’s one thing we’ve learned from my analysis, it’s that one of the main reasons people watch these videos is to see how streets and buildings they recognize today looked back then in the 20th century. That’s something you should also reflect in your thumbnail, so I’ll show you how to do that in the ‘Let’s Create Your Video’ section.

How to find good topics?
When searching for topics you could do 2 things:
- Use the outlier method
- Use ChatGPT (or any other AI) method
1. Outlier methode
Start by looking at the most popular videos on competitor channels and see if you can identify a pattern. For example, on these two channels (https://www.youtube.com/@MajesticAIStudio/videos and https://www.youtube.com/@Matt_Reconstructs_History), videos about London perform the best. That’s a clear pattern showing that people are triggered by the word ‘London.’
From there, you can do two things:
- Create a video on the same topic (for example, London in the 1600s or 1700s), or
- Create a variation on that topic, such as London in the 1500s or 1800s, or focus on specific iconic streets or buildings in London.”
2. ChatGPT methode
With the Outlier Method, you mainly do the research yourself, but you can also outsource this work to ChatGPT. By taking screenshots of competitors’ homepages and their most popular videos, you can ask ChatGPT to determine which topics are best to pursue based on that data. You can also, just like with the Outlier Method, ask ChatGPT to come up with variations based on the data that it believes have strong potential to perform well.
So what topic should I go with?
If I were to start in this niche myself, I would begin with London, because it clearly shows that there’s a proven pattern there

How to create your thumbnail
What we’ve learned from our analysis is that people watch these videos because they enjoy seeing how familiar streets and buildings we know today looked in a different era, such as the 20th century. So I went looking for something instantly recognizable when you think of London, and in this case that was this iconic bridge.

Next, I searched for an image of that same bridge to see whether it already existed in the 1600s, and that’s when I found this image.

Merging images into a thumbnail format
With these two images, I want to create a kind of ‘before-and-after’ thumbnail. I noticed that the competition had done something similar, using a clean and effective design.

So I asked ChatGPT whether it could put my two images in the same style as this thumbnail, and this was the result:

Brightness + sharpener
Because we want our thumbnail to stand out compared to others, I added some extra lighting and sharpened the image.

Text
Additionally, I chose not to do exactly the same as the competition, because I feel their thumbnail is a bit too busy. I want the focus to be mainly on the years and the before and after effect. So I added those elements, and this is the final result:

AUDIENCE ANALYSIS
What does the audience like?
Using AI for good purpose
This audience appreciates AI when it’s used to bring history to life, showing people what it must have been like in that era.
Like to learn
This audience really enjoys learning about what life was like back then, so they can get a clearer picture of history.
Imagination
This audience loves being able to finally see, visually, what a building or city looked like in that time period.
AUDIENCE ANALYSIS
What does the audience not like?
Details not right
I’ve seen multiple comments where people give constructive feedback when things aren’t accurate. This can actually be a strategy to drive extra engagement on your videos but on the other hand, in the long run it can also cause you to lose viewers. Especially since many comments show that people really value accuracy and attention to detail.
