Cat Signs
Why this
niche?
In this niche I found a channel that only started 2 months ago and now hit 2.3M views per month. And what makes it even more crazy is that there are plenty of thing to improve. This cat niche is a niche with a low video difficulty, and therefore very interesting if you are just starting out with Youtube Automation.

Competition ANALYSIS
These channels are showing potential for this niche.
One of the reasons why I named this niche 'Cat Signs' is because when we look at this competition channel, we see a certain pattern. What I've seen on this channel is that almost every topic has something to do with signals that cats give to cat owners. Here are a few topics:
- Signs your cats see you as their parent
- Signs that your cat is lonely
- Secret Signs your cat loves you, but you don't know - How do cat apologize
- Things that hurt emotionally
- Secret Ways to tell, your cats you love them
- Why does your cat sleep with you?
You see the pattern? You mainly see the words 'signs'. Also with this channel https://www.youtube.com/@Feline_Fanatics/videos you can see the same pattern, and if you look at the most popular videos you will see that the views are really good.

Great start
''I know you know your cat well, but did you know that your cat can also know a lot about you?''
The title of this video is ''10 Things Your Cat Knows About You! 😻'' and the first sentence of this video is directly related to that, so that's great. Let's look at the first part of this sentence for a moment: 'I know you know your cat well' - this is a strong start for in this niche because I've seen a lot in the comments that many cat owners like to express their feelings about their cats. That way, they start with recognition followed by a triggering question.

Female voice over
I think it is a good choice to choose for a female voice over in this niche. We have seen that this target group consists more of women than men, so for that reason a female voice over is a better fit. But, not necessarily this voice. I will go in more detail about that in the don'ts section.
00:37
Real stories about cats
''A cat named Oscar gained Fame in an intensive care unit in Rhode Island, for predicting when patients were about to pass away...''
This is a smart way to fill your video with as much real footage as possible. As we see here, they use a story of a cat with real footage so they don't have to use stock footage. By doing this, your video comes to life with real footage and that's also what's happening in the comments. The cat owners like to talk about their own stories and by this you'll trigger them to tell their stories too. This is one of the main reasons why this video is performing so well.

'Bad' AI Voice Over
The comments have shown us that this AI voice over is not appreciated by some viewers. For that reason, I would not choose for an AI voice over and is something you can improve by using a real voice over. And if you do choose an AI voice over, then make sure it doesn't sound like this.

Long-winded intro
''Cats are very observant animals and use every possible detail to understand the world around them including you who is a part of their world.''
As mentioned in the do's section, I think this intro is fine, but I would leave out this part (00:05 till 00:14) because it's too long-winded. You want to keep your intro as short as possible. The only sentences I'd use for this script is this part: ''I know you know your cat well, but did you know that your cat can also know a lot about you? In this video I'll tell you 10 things your cat knows about you and you probably don't even realize. Without further ado, let's get started.
That's enough. Just keep it short.

Typical top 10 video
As I explained earlier transitions between cases are now typically in the form of a " top 10" list. For example, they might start with one case and then move on to the next by saying something like this: Number 2, (name), and then continue the story. First of all, I want to say that this is not necessarily wrong, but if you have multiple cases in a single video, try to combine them into a single story. In this way, you make sure that the viewer does not know exactly how many more cases will follow, and you do not give them time to consider whether they still want to see the next case, and that also increases the chances of a higher AVD. So I'd skip this typical top 10 strategy here, and make it one story where you use good triggering hooks as a transition. For example in this niche:
- But if you thought that was all cats know about you, you're wrong...
- But there's also something you need to know about *announce case*
- Now, that's impressive (or whatever it's about), right? But wait until you hear about *announce case 2*

Bad stock footage
Too much stock footage with different unknown faces in your video can make your video look fake, which is why I would choose to avoid faces as much as possible. Focus more on stock footage where you only see shadows, (and in this case buildings/universities), hands, feet etc. I will show a few examples of stock footage that I would replace or take out:
As you can see, the timestamps I named above consist of all different faces. And that is exactly what I would leave out, because this is exactly what I mean by bad stock footage.

The Curious Cat
Used thumbnail 1
✅ Triggering thumbnail
A good triggering thumbnail where we see two focus points: cat and text. I'd choose to add an arrow pointing from the cat to the text to make it even clearer, but overall I think this thumbnail is great. Especially since this audience are true cat lovers, it is a smart move to use such a huge image of a cat with pathetic eyes. And the text chosen for this thumbnail may raise many questions among those true cat lovers: 'This hurts them!'
The Curious Cat
Used thumbnail 2
This thumbnail received more than 907K views...
We see here the most popular video/thumbnail of this channel, and this thumbnail has achieved more than 907K views. And that's something that's very interesting, because when I look at this thumbnail, I definitely see some things to improve. Let's start with the text. I'd choose to use a maximum of 2/3 words where you want to confuse the target audience a little bit, by putting something like:
THEY DO THIS!
Then I would use an arrow pointing in the direction of a cat, doing something you wouldn't expect. For example, point an arrow to the ears as if you can see something from that. Also, when I was looking at this thumbnail my eye first fell on the cat, and I didn't read the text right away. This is a small detail, but very important because of the color combination used on this thumbnail. I understand the idea behind having a blue background so that the thumbnail stands out more, but because of that, the text falls away completely. So for that reason, I would also make this background black like thumbnail 1, and color the text white with red and make it bigger than it's now.

How do I find topics?
As we have learned from the analysis, this target audience likes to watch Cat Signs. So with this niche, that's really where your focus should be if you'd ask me, because we see that it works.
Youtube: Check the competition channels, read the comments because there are a lot of comments from the target audience there as well and that can be super interesting for your topics/scripts. The competition channel The Curios Cat and this channel https://www.youtube.com/@Feline_Fanatics/videos are channels that I would definitely take a good look at if you want to get into this niche because they have some pretty good thumbnails en titles. You can also get a lot of topic inspiration from watching their well-performing videos.
TikTok: You can also search on TikTok with the search term: 'cat sign' and 'cat language signs' and a lot of videos like this came up:
https://vm.tiktok.com/ZIJnxXetX/
https://vm.tiktok.com/ZIJnxtAKw/
https://www.tiktok.com/@happypets.show?_t=8kmchvNNasb&_r=1
Google: If you search on Google on 'Cat Signs' you'll find articles where they're explaining why cats do certain things and what kind of signals they give.
https://www.purina.co.uk/articles/cats/behaviour/understanding-cats/cat-body-language
https://www.rd.com/list/how-to-decode-your-cats-behavior/
https://www.catster.com/guides/how-can-i-tell-if-my-cat-is-overstimulated/
As I mentioned in the video analysis, I'd also make sure to search on real stories about cats, because that way the video editor can use real footage and not have to use too much stock footage. I searched on Google on the search term "cat real story" and several articles came up. For example: https://fetchpetcare.com/blog/top-5-insane-cat-true-stories/
Topic:
I started my research for a topic through the competition channels, because I feel that is where I can get the most inspiration and also see right away what performs well and what does not. I filtered on the most popular videos on the competition channel 'The Curious Cat' and channel Feline Fanatics.
What I noticed is that one topic was done by both competition channels and they both got a lot of views. So, for that reason, I chose this topic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SftObVS_Ehg and also because I see some areas for improvement here.
What the competition channels also are doing is adding real cat stories to their videos, and so that's what I went looking for. I used Google to search for another article that deals with a sad cat. I think that if you use this real story in your video, you can make a nice transition and give a good example of how poorly a cat should be when it is not getting any love. Because this audience are true cat lovers, they will be very sympathetic to this real story which is about a pathetic cat who finally got back to a healthy and good life with lots of love. So it's important when you do this, that you start your video with a lot of examples of what certain situations do to a cat (like article 1), so that afterward you can say this: ''Speaking about that, this story of a pathetic cat is a good example of how they will look like if someone does that to them. *and then you continue with the real story*''
I will add the articles down below.

How to create your thumbnail?
Because I like the thumbnail style of the competition channels, I'm not necessarily going to change it that much. So the first thing I did was looking for a picture of a pathetic cat on Google. I really liked this picture because it looks realistic, and it makes you feel sorry and that's exactly what you want your image to do.

What did I do?
• Expand background: With the Photoshop AI tool I expanded the background otherwise it didn't fit.
• Sharpen: In Photoshop you can sharpen your image by doing this: Select layer --> Click on filter on top --> Click on Camera Raw Filter --> Go to Effects and put the Texture to +100 --> Go to detail and put the sharpening to +150 --> Press OK
• Added tears: I searched on Google for 'Tears PNG' and placed the picture of the tear at the bottom of the cat's eye, making the cat look even more pathetic.
• Arrow: Added a red arrow with black shading to make the arrow even more visible.
• Text & Bar: I placed a bar with a yellow color under the trigger word so that it stands out even more.
AUDIENCE ANALYSIS
What does the audience like?
Helpful Information
This audience likes to know how to take good care of their cats. This target group loves cats, and likes to get information about this to create a better bond with their cat.
Sharing their feelings about cats
This target audience are true cat fans. They love cats and like to share this in the comments. The comments are full of this, and they also like to share their experiences they have had with their cat in the comments. As an example: ''Cats have incredible emotions. I was recently in the hospital for a week. I had no choice but to have someone my kitty did not know to come in daily to feed her. When i got home my kitty stuck to me like glue. For 3 days she wouldn't let me out of her sight, she followed me everywhere. ''
So this shows that they talk a lot about their own cats, and clearly show what they like about cats. This is very interesting because it allows you to easily appeal to the emotions of the viewer.
AUDIENCE ANALYSIS
What does the audience not like?
'Bad' AI Voice Over
Also in this niche, I've seen comments about the AI voice over. I did have to search pretty long for these comments, but the opinions in the comments shared about it are very clear as you can see.
Talking to mutch about male cats
Something I personally would keep in mind in this niche is not to talk too much about male cats. In fact, I've seen this comment come up a few times, and I find that it can irritate and annoy people if you constantly talk in the he form.
