Plane Tech

Why this
niche?
In this niche I found a channel that started only 2 months ago and already achieved more than 4M+ views. Besides the people who are interested in airplanes, engineering, and aviation are often true fans. They’re not just looking to be entertained, they want to learn something too. That means they watch longer, come back more often, and are more likely to share the videos with others. On top of that, it's possible that this niche has a higher RPM because it’s more technical and attracts a highly educated audience. So if you're into aviation or you're looking for a niche where you can effectively use AI tools, this might be the perfect fit for you.

Nice footage
People who watch these kinds of videos are more into technical side and either know something about airplanes or are very interested in them. Showing beautiful shots of the aircraft really adds to the experience and gives them the right feeling. It helps them enjoy the video even more. That’s why I it's a good thing to show this in your video.

This is good, but...
Imagine it's 1968 Commercial aviation is booming, but there's a problem..
The sentence you see above is really good, so don’t get me wrong. It’s just a missed chance that it took almost a full minute to get there. If that had been the opening line of the script, it would’ve been a strong start. In short, don’t make your intro too long and try to get to the point as quickly as possible, otherwise you risk losing viewers.

Highlight the technical aspect
As I mentioned earlier, this audience mainly consists of pilots or people who are genuinely interested in the technical side of airplanes. That’s why it’s so important that your script highlights these aspects and dives a bit deeper into them because that’s what this audience enjoys watching. Now, you might be thinking: “But how am I supposed to do that if I don’t know much about planes myself?” No worries, I’ll go into more detail on that in the “how to create your video” section.

Not a must, but this is nice
What they’ve done here with the editing is fun to watch, and the technical sound effect fits the audience really well. This is definitely something you could recommend to your video editor. That said, I want to mention that this shouldn’t be the main focus. It’s a nice touch, but it’s not a must-have. First, make sure your script is on point and that your editor knows how to tell the story clearly. Once that’s in place, then you can start adding these kinds of effects.

Real footage
Earlier I mentioned the beautiful shots they use of the aircraft to create a certain feeling for the viewer, but it’s also important to include some raw, real footage now and then like they’ve done here. It makes the story feel more authentic, which helps the viewer connect with it on a deeper level.

This takes too long
It’s really a missed opportunity not to start the voice-over right away and jump straight into the story. I get that they might want to create a certain mood by showing those visuals first, but you have to remember that the first few seconds are crucial in deciding whether a video goes viral. That’s why I wouldn’t take the risk of letting viewers click away just because they don’t hear a voice. You can easily combine those visuals and background music with a voice-over from the very start, so the viewer is immediately pulled into the story.

This could be better
The fact that they chose a British voice-over doesn’t make much sense, since the audience isn’t specifically British. I’d recommend going with an American voice-over instead and someone who can tell the story in a clear and engaging way. Also, the voice sometimes sounds a bit too commercial, but that’s largely because of the script itself.

3 focus points, but...
What I like about this thumbnail is that it uses three clear focus points: text, an arrow, and the plane itself. Personally, I wouldn’t include the logo in the top right corner, because it’s just an extra element that doesn’t really add value to the thumbnail. That being said, the text they used is a bit too long, and the dark blue color makes the thumbnail less noticeable overall. I’d suggest using red or yellow instead, or at least adding a shadow to the text so it pops more. So overall: it’s a good thumbnail with three strong focus points, but there’s definitely room for improvement. The best part? This thumbnail still got 598K views so imagine what’s possible if you make it even better.

Not triggering enough
The thumbnail we see here isn’t very triggering in my opinion, because it doesn’t raise any questions or create any sense of FOMO. On top of that, they used the exact same text as the video title, which is honestly a missed opportunity. Ideally, the thumbnail and the title should work together and complement each other. For example, if your title is The Hidden Secret Inside the Boeing 747’s Hump, then the thumbnail should visually hint at that secret without giving too much away. You could use a text like HUGE MISTAKE! to create more FOMO and curiosity. In short, there’s definitely a lot of room for improvement with this thumbnail, and the fact that it only got 3.2K views likely has something to do with that.

How to find topics?
To find good topics in this niche, it’s important to take a close look at competing channels. What’s working well, what isn’t, and are there any clear patterns you can focus on? Topics that work well often go into technical stuff, like how certain parts of a plane work or why a specific design was used. But they also include something interesting or unexpected to keep it engaging.
It also helps to focus on famous planes, like the Boeing 747, Airbus A380, or older ones like the DC-10 and MD-11. People like watching videos about planes they know or remember.
Another type of topic that does well is about the business side of aviation, like why airlines made certain choices or how companies like Airbus and Boeing compete with each other.

YouTube: YouTube is also a great place to find topic ideas, but keep in mind that there are a lot of news channels, which are more of a different sub-niche. I’d recommend focusing mainly on the competing channel Plane Curious. I also found two other channels below that you can use for inspiration.

ChatGPT/Scriptwriter: This brings me back to the point I wanted to make. If you don’t have a lot of knowledge about this niche, ChatGPT can be a great tool to help you. Of course, it’s ideal if you can find a scriptwriter who has some interest or background in the technical side of aviation, but chances are that won’t be easy. That’s why I definitely recommend using ChatGPT. Just keep in mind that it’s important to know how to use it properly if you want to end up with a triggering well-structured script as I explained at the video analysis.
Topic:
To find my own topic in this niche I started by looking at the competition and focused on the top-performing videos. Which ones are doing well and were posted recently? That led me to a video about the Boeing 747 that was uploaded just a week ago and already passed half a million views. That shows the topic is clearly very interesting. From there I looked at what could be improved and how I could give it a fresh twist. I started brainstorming with ChatGPT and eventually came up with this idea: The Boeing 747 Mistake That Changed Aviation Forever.

How to create your thumbnail?
I started by putting the Boeing 747 into ChatGPT and asked if it could make it more realistic and this is what came out. However, it’s important to include in the prompt that details such as the number of windows, etc., on the 747 must match correctly, otherwise it will go wrong.

Photoshop
Afterward, I brought the image into Photoshop, where I added some whitening, increased the brightness, and enhanced the texture and sharpness. I also added some subtle shadows at the top to help the text stand out better.

Finally, I positioned the text and arrow to point directly at the cockpit, in order to spark curiosity in the thumbnail and make viewers want to click.
