niche?

In this niche, I found a channel that started only 3 months ago and already reached over 3.3 million views. On top of that, I discovered another channel with similar content, which confirms that this audience is really into cave stories explained in the "Explained in Minutes" style. What’s great about this is that it’s a different format, meaning the competition is still low. So if this niche catches your interest, this analysis is definitely for you.

AUDIENCE ANALYSIS

What does the audience like?

LIKE

Cave And Cave Divers

This audience is a big fan of watching cave and diving videos. However, many of them believe that most of the deaths could have been avoided by simply not entering a cave in the first place. So in short: they’re not actually fans of cave diving itself, but they do enjoy watching it, similar to how people enjoy horror movies.

LIKE

Explained in minutes format

The fact that these kinds of videos are combined with the Explained in Minutes format is what makes them work so well. This niche has been shared before, but that was in a different format. This version uses a paint-style look with fast pacing and getting straight to the point.

Here we see another comment that confirms the success of this format within the niche. No long intros, this audience wants creators to get straight to the point.

Explained in minutes format

What stood out to me right away is that this isn’t your typical “cade dive gone wrong” video. Instead, it’s combined with the Explained in Minutes format. There’s no long intro, they jump straight into the story. So if you want to step into this niche, this is key: start your videos by getting straight to the point.

00:08

'Funny' tragic music

At first glance, the background music choice in this video might seem out of place, but that’s exactly why they work. The unexpected contrast is what makes the whole thing click. In this niche, it’s not just about what you’re saying, but how you present it. The visuals, the simple font, they’re so understated that they actually draw you in. Even the classical piano track, which feels wrong at first, ends up giving the story just the right emotional depth.

00:22

Nice video editing

What you're seeing here is good video editing. While it might seem like it's just all animation at first, if you watch the whole video, you’ll notice that there’s actually a lot of images used as well. It's not just what’s being explained, but how it’s presented. That’s why it’s so important to work with an editor who really understands the Explained in Minutes style. Only then can you add those funny touches as we see here (a character’s belly suddenly popping out with the words “Too big!” on screen.

00:53

Facial expressions

What stands out to me is that the character shows multiple facial expressions, which really makes the video more fun and engaging. I’m not saying this is what will make your video go viral because it’s a small editing detail, but if you have an editor who can pull this off, it really adds life to the character. As a viewer, I feel much more drawn into the story because of it. That said, if your editor doesn’t have this skill, it’s not a dealbreaker. It won’t stop your video from being successful.

Don'ts

3:05

Don't do this

This video doesn’t give the viewer a real reason to stick around for the next case. It just suddenly jumps from one story to another without any transition or buildup. What I would do instead is use a hook before introducing the next case, something that gives the viewer a clear reason to keep watching. For example:

• But if you thought that was intense… wait until you hear what happened next.
• And then there’s a case that takes things to a whole different level…

TITLE RATING

Used title 1

The <span class="text-color-orange">Most Insane</span> Cave Rescues</span> Ever

This title is strong and works well for our target audience. It’s short, triggering and uses a proven format that grabs attention. The trigger word “insane” adds intensity and triggers curiosity, while “ever” makes it feel like the craziest rescues of all time. Besides, it doesn’t give away too much, which is good. The viewer is left wondering what exactly happened and why these rescues were so extreme. So overall, this title is definitely one you can take an example from. Title structure they used:

The [TRIGGERWORD] + [TOPIC] + Ever

Other examples:

1. The Most Terrifying Cave Rescues Ever

2. The Deadliest Cave Diving Missions Ever

3. The Craziest Cave Survival Stories Ever

4. The Most Dangerous Caves Ever Explored

5. The Most Insane Cave Diving Fails Ever

Simple Paint

Used title 2

<span class="text-color-orange">Luckiest</span> <span class="text-color-yellow">Cave Divers</span> Who Survived <span class="text-color-orange">The Impossible</span>

The title “Luckiest Cave Divers Who Survived The Impossible” is another strong title. It grabs attention with the word “luckiest” which makes the viewer curious for example: why were they lucky, and what exactly happened? Besides, “survived the impossible” adds tension and makes it feel like these people should not have made it out alive, which creates instant FOMO. It's also telling us there’s more to the story and that something dramatic or unexpected happened.  So overall, it’s a great title that mixes lots of emotion and curiosity without giving too much away. Other examples:

1. Luckiest Cave Divers Who Survived The Unthinkable

2. Smartest Cave Divers Who Survived Certain Death

3. Bravest Cave Divers Who Survived Pure Chaos

4. Youngest Cave Divers Who Survived The Impossible

5. Final Cave Divers Who Survived Against All Odds

6. Doomed Cave Divers Who Survived The Worst

7. Deepest Cave Divers Who Survived A Deadly Trap

Used title 3

The <span class="text-color-orange">Most Painful</span> <span class="text-color-yellow">Cave Deaths</span> Ever

Same title structure.. There’s no confusion about what the viewer is getting, and that shock factor is what pulls people in. The word “painful” adds emotion. If you want similar options in the same title structure, here are a few:

1. The Most Brutal Cave Deaths Ever
2. Real Cave Deaths That Hurt To Watch
3. All Deaths In Caves That Were Pure Hell
4. The Worst Ways People Died Inside Caves
5. The Most Painful Cave Deaths You’ll Never Forget

‍✅ Great thumbnail style

This is a really strong thumbnail with a unique style! I’d recommend continuing with this semi-realistic cartoon look with bold, rough lines. That way, your audience will instantly recognize what kind of video it is, which increases the chances they'll click. You can choose to work with a thumbnail designer, although that may be more expensive. But there are also several AI tools that can help you achieve this style effectively. You’ll find more about that in the section “Let’s Create Your Thumbnail.

How to find topics?

To find strong topics in this niche, you need to understand what makes cave content go viral. It’s not just about caves, it’s about the stories of survival, danger and tragedy that happen inside them. The more intense or shocking the story, the better. If we look at the competitor channel Simple Paint, we can see that their video about cave rescues has already passed 1 million views. But their cave deaths video also performed really well. This shows that you can focus on both types of stories: dramatic rescues but also deadly incidents.

Important: Besides that, I also want to share the comment below, because this is something that really matters to this audience. I’ve seen similar comments multiple times, so I’d definitely recommend including real images of what happened every now and then. So use a mix between the explaind in minutes format combined with real footage.

ChatGPT: You can also find tons of topic inspiration using ChatGPT. Just use simple prompts like: “Give me a list of the deadliest cave diving incidents in history”  and it will give you a full list to work with.

Google: I recommend starting your topic research by looking up terms like “cave rescue”, “cave diving gone wrong”, “trapped in cave”, “deadly cave accident”, “mysterious cave discovery”, “survivor cave story” or even “ice cave collapse”.

YouTube: On YouTube, I’ve linked a few channels below, where you can find plenty of topic inspiration.

Topic:

To find topics in this niche, I started by searching on YouTube. Which topics perform well and haven’t been uploaded too long ago? That’s when I came across this video (see below). I found it interesting because the thumbnail is very triggering, and it immediately gave me an idea for a different variation, but in the same style. In my opinion, the fact that this video has gained the most views is largely because of that thumbnail.

How to create your title?

I chose this title because it follows a structure we already know works well, and it matches the thumbnail perfectly. It creates curiosity and doesn’t give away too much information. The title structure goes as follows:

[TRIGGERWORD] +. [TOPIC]

YOUR VIDEO

Thumbnail example

How to create your thumbnail?

First, I went to OpenArt and used the competitor’s thumbnail as a reference. That led to the version you see below. There was some text on the original thumbnail, but I easily removed it using the Magic Eraser tool in OpenArt.ai.

Photoshop

Next, I added an outer glow in the center to make the edges of the cave stand out more clearly and to highlight that it’s a cave. It also helps the text pop better. I also adjusted the red shirt by making it a brighter shade of red, so the thumbnail grabs even more attention.

You can choose to work with a thumbnail maker, but that will cost you a bit more or you can use a tool like openart.ai, which I definitely recommend. So if you followed all the steps, your thumbnail will look like this:
