Supermodels

Why this
niche?
In this niche, I found a channel that achieved more than 2.6M+ views. Besides, they post only a couple of times per month so the views per video are also very high. Once you understand this audience there's a huge audience waiting for you. So if you're interested in a niche about supermodels from the 80/90's then this one is for you.

Real footage
Using real footage in this niche is honestly a game-changer. People aren’t just clicking randomly, they’re fans of these supermodels, so seeing their faces instantly pulls them in. In this niche, using real footage isn’t optional, it’s a must.

Using original sounds
Pausing the voice-over for a moment and using the real audio from the footage is actually super effective. It gives the voice-over a breather and makes the clip being shown feel more intense.

This is nice, but...
Using little lines like this in your script helps it avoid becoming boring. Now, it actually feels like a real person wrote it, someone who knows the niche and cares about the story. And it’s kind of crazy how just one small sentence can shift the whole tone. But... the main thing that could be better here is just the way the story’s being told (the voice-over.) It's a missed chance because the script itself is actually pretty good. But the voice-over and lack of background music make the whole thing feel a little bit flat.

Not bad, but could be better
This intro isn’t bad, they’re clearly trying to set a mood and draw the viewer in, which kind of works. But honestly, it could be so much better. Just look at the title: people are clicking because they want the untold story of the real-life Barbie. That’s what grabbed their attention, so the video should dive straight into that. Don’t beat around the bush, hook them right away with what they came for.

Bad voice-over
When I clicked on this video, the first thing I noticed was the poor voice-over and that’s not what you want, because it really takes away the story. Now, I get that the target audience is a bit older, and I didn’t see a lot of comments pointing it out, but still… if you’re looking for something to improve, this is definitely one of the easiest wins. A better voice-over could instantly lift the whole video.

No background music
As you know, using background music is a great way to give your video a certain vibe or emotional tone. I’m not saying it’s necessary for every niche, but in a niche like this, where the visuals play a big role and people are actually watching your video instead of just listening, I’d always add background music. It makes the edit feel more complete, and helps guide how the viewer feels while watching.

This could be better
When you look at this thumbnail, it doesn’t really raise a lot of questions at least not in my opinion. The question-based text on the thumbnail doesn’t make a strong statement, and honestly, it kind of suggests that they don’t fully know the answer themselves. What I would do instead is use a line that triggers questions, like: ‘They RUINED MY CAREER’ or something along those lines. That way, the viewer might think: ‘Wait, who ruined her career?’ But this ‘WHY’ text doesn’t really do much for the audience. Also, I’d zoom in more on the model’s face so she stands out better. The background, though I do like that. It immediately tells you what the video is about but its not to chaotic because of the dark shadow placed on top.

Maybe it doesn't look like much, but you have to take into account that this channel only uploads a few videos per month. Just imagine what could happen if you increase that number.

How to find topics?
If you want to find good topics in this niche, it really helps to look at the most popular videos from similar channels. Do you notice any patterns? To make it easier for you, I already did some of the research. What stands out to me is that a lot of these videos try to show the real side of these models, or te dark side/things nobody knew before. Just take a look at their most viewed videos, and you’ll see what I mean.
1. The model who walked away from it all
2. The untold story of the real-life Barbie
3. The Fashion Icon everyone loves to copy, but why?
Do you see the pattern and the kind of message they're trying to send with these topics? That’s the kind of content that really triggers and performs best. Besides, there’s another pattern in this niche: the timing of their prime. These are mostly models who were born in the 1960s or 1970s. I then simply asked ChatGPT what the pattern was between these supermodel names, and this is what it came up with:

YouTube: On YouTube, I found a few other channels where you can take a look at:
https://www.youtube.com/@therunwayfable/videosn
https://www.youtube.com/@beyondthecatwalkyt/videos
Google: If you search on Google News there are a lot of articles coming up if you simply search for supermodel/90's/Untold stories
https://www.harpersbazaar.com/uk/fashion/a33620980/naomi-campbell-90s-supermodel-extract/
ChatGPT: With ChatGPT, you can also find a lot of topic inspiration. I simply copied the URL link of the competition channel and asked if he could continue with finding topics for a niche like this. Important: Chat will give you the names, but then it's up to you to go check these names out on Google. Is there enough footage of the topics? Do they fit in the pattern of supermodels of our competition channel?

Topic:
To create my own topic in this niche, I started searching on Google for stories where something intense happened to a model from around the 90's and I came across the name of Linda Evangelista. Then I checked her name on YouTube and saw that one video on this exact topic was posted about two months ago and has already hit over 300k views. That clearly shows there’s still strong interest in this topic. On top of that, I see some room for improvement in the thumbnail and title of that video, which makes this the perfect topic to go for.

How to create your thumbnail?
First, I started searching on Google for fashion magazines and I chose to place a maximum of 4 magazine covers next to each other to maintain a clean and balanced layout. The more magazines you line up, the more chaotic the thumbnail becomes and that's exaclty what you want to avoid.

Photoshop
Then I continued in Photoshop and added a photo of the super model. I cut out the background and used Camera Raw Filter -> Whiten, Texture, Sharpen to make her stand out a bit more. I also added a dark shadow on the background and in the right corner.

Eventually I added the text 'THEY KILLED MY CAREER' because it raises questions and the viewer has to click on the thumbnail to find out the answer. If you followed all the steps, your thumbnail will look something like this:
