Gumball

Why this
niche?
In this niche, I found a channel that started just a month ago and has already gained over 7 million views. The great thing about this niche is that it has a massive audience of Gumball fans who are interested in everything related to the show. On top of that, competition is low, and even channels that usually post other types of content consistently see their Gumball videos get the highest views. If you're interested in a cartoon-related niche, this one is definitely for you.

'Any average viewer who stumbles upon the Amazing World of Gumball might just think it's another kid show, but beneath the surface lies some of the darkest episodes in cartoon history..'
Great intro!
This intro is good because it gets right to the point of the video. When viewers click, they immediately hear about exactly what the title promised, the darkest episodes. Saying something like "beneath the surface are some of the darkest episodes in cartoon history" also grabs attention because it makes people curious. They’ll start wondering what's so dark about a cartoon that seems pretty innocent, and they'll want to keep watching to find out. Great intro!

Great editing, but...
What you're seeing here is simply good editing. There are plenty of effects, and the pacing is pretty fast. I get why the audience likes this, especially since cartoons themselves are often quick and flashy. But you should know this isn't the most important thing for making a successful video. Sure, it looks nice, and it's fun to watch, but if your script is strong and the editing is a bit simpler, you can still be very successful. In the end, it's all about the story and how you tell it. So, always prioritize the script and your storytelling. If you've got an editor who can deliver this kind of editing, that's great, but it's definitely not a must-have.

Changing background music
Have you ever watched a horror movie without sound, or with some funny music underneath? If not, try it sometime just for fun because you’ll notice that the movie you once found terrifying suddenly isn’t scary at all. And that’s all because of the background music. Like I mentioned earlier, the editing and all the high-quality effects they use aren’t really necessary. But using the right background music? That’s a must. Especially with a topic like this video, talking about the darkest Gumball episodes—you want to pull the viewer into the story. And music helps to do exactly that. Also, at 00:33, they even take it a step further with an extra sound effect. Honestly, I’d rather have an editor who is great in stuff like that than someone who just knows how to make things look super polished.

Nice voice-over
I’m hearing a really good voice-over here. Someone who tells the story with full energy, but also knows exactly when to slow down and build a bit of tension. There’s a lot of variation in pitch, which keeps the video from feeling flat or monotone.

This is very important
'But later that night, things get even weirder...'
If there’s one thing that really helps you tell a good story, it’s this. A lot of people still underestimate how important it is to use strong hooks in your video. This gives the viewer a reason to keep watching, and makes it almost impossible for them to click away at that moment. It creates questions in their mind and helps boost your average view duration, which is a super strong signal for YouTube. I know this is something you see a lot in other niches too, but I’m going to keep pointing it out because it’s seriously one of the most important parts of storytelling.

This thumbnail got more than 1.2M+ clicks
This thumbnail has gotten over a million views, and I can see why it works well in this niche. Even though it's a bit chaotic, Gumball is clearly the main focus, and the color makes him stand out even more. The only thing I’d change is to create a situation in the thumbnail that raises more questions, because that’s not really the case here. Overall, it’s a good thumbnail, but I think it could be slightly better. I’ll explain how to do that in the ‘How to create your thumbnail’ section.

How to find topics?
To find topics in this niche, it's crucial to take a good look at our competitor's channel. To make it as easy as possible for you, I’ve already done that part for you. I understand that if you have no knowledge of this niche, you probably have no idea what kind of topics to come up with. Of course, it would be ideal to have a scriptwriter who’s familiar with it, but if that’s not possible , no problem because ChatGPT can help you with that very well. You can simply paste the titles from the competitor’s channel into the chat and ask for more topic inspiration. For example:
ChatGPT: If you know how to work with ChatGPT you can also create your script with it, even in a niche you don’t know much about. The trick is to feed strong prompts and work in chapters. For example, take the transcript from your competitor’s channel so Chat can recognize the writing style. After that you're going to start with the intro with a strong hook and then continue with chapter 1,2,3,4 etc.
YouTube: I didn’t find many channels that only post Gumball content, but when they do upload a Gumball video, it usually does really well. Here are a few examples:
• https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8NESOe2d2KQ
Topic:
To come up with topics in this niche, I searched “Gumball” on YouTube and filtered by most viewed, 4–20 minutes, and uploaded this year. I couldn’t find many full Gumball-focused channels besides our main competitor, but I did notice a few general channels that posted just one Gumball video, and it performed really well. (See article/videolink down below). When I looked into which Gumball topics were getting the most views, I noticed that the ones that kept blowing up were always about the scariest or most intense episodes. That was the moment I realized this is probably one of the best topics to start with. And if you look at our main competitor’s channel, you’ll see that this exact topic is also their most viewed video. So that was even more confirmation that this is the one to go for.

How to create your thumbnail?
I generated this image with ChatGPT after sending a thumbnail from the competing channel as an example, but I wanted it to be even scarier and more triggering and this is what came out:

Photoshop
After that, I moved into Photoshop to make Gumball pop even more and subtly highlighted a small part of the background — where we'll later point with an arrow and text to draw attention. So viewers know we're gonna talk about the scariest episode from Gumball and create some FOMO by making it seem like they missed something in the episode.
